Henry Gomez Jr., a former laboratory school student, clinched the Best Future Business Leader Award in the UK-based Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) - Global Business Challenge (GBC) held at the One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia last August 6.
Moreover, being the business advisor of the Scions Consultancy Firm representing UP Visayas, Gomez led the team and bagged the third prize; a feat to consider since they have competed along with 14 countries all over the world.
CIMA’s Brand Director Ray Perry chaired the panel of judges and board of directors who witnessed more than 10 hours of presentations by 14 teams from different countries. According to Perry and the other judges, that day was a stunning display of unequalled argumentative skills from young business students who have not even studied management accounting.

Cubar wins DOST contest on inventionsWednesday, 25 August 2010
CIT instructor Jojie E. Cubar prevailed over other inventors, innovators, and researchers during the 2010 Visayas Islands Invention Contest and Exhibits of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) last August 12-14. His entry, “Valve Spring Remover with Seal Puller” won the Regional Winner for Creative Research Category.
Mr. Cubar came up with an invention that can be considered an engine mechanic’s dream tool. The valve spring remover with seal puller is a special service tool that removes a defective valve spring and seal without pulling out the cylinder head assembly in engine easier and faster. With the use of this tool, repair becomes easier, faster, and cheaper since the process is shortened; cutting the two working days demanded by the conventional repair method in just two hours.

ESD Projects bag awardsWednesday, 11 August 2010 Two projects of the Extension Services Division outstood other entries in Western Visayas after winning as Champion and 1stRunner-up in the recently concluded PASUC VI 1st Regional Extension Symposium.
The micro-financing project entitled “Hamon sa Kababaihan Biktima ng Kalikasan” of Mr. Andres B. Ortega, Jr. and Miss Cherry Pink D. Barredo bagged the championship award in the Livelihood Category.
On the other hand, “Bulabog Putian National Park on its Course of Development” by Engr. Corazon C. Corbal, Arch. Rosa Lea V. Ajesta and Arch. Gelmar S. Montefrio stood out as 1st Runner-Up in Health and Environment Category and swept the same award in Poster Competition.
