The college is holding its Foundation Day starting August 30 to September 5, 2009. The event marks the 104th Foundation Anniversary of the college.
A motorcade by college officials, department heads, faculty, staff, alumni and students was held at about 2 P.M. on the first day of the affair, August 30, 2009. A Thanksgiving Mass followed right after, celebrated in the covered court.
The Opening Program for WVCST PAHAMPANG 2009 started at about 7:30 A.M. on August 31 in the campus grounds. OIC/VPAA and Overall Chairman for the event, Dr. Ricardo B. Abaleña rendered his opening remarks. He stressed the theme for this year's celebration, “WVCST's HEART: A Formidable Partner for Sustainable Development”. College President Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr. addressed the guests and participants with his welcome remarks. He also introduced the Keynote Speaker, UP-Visayas Chancellor Dr. Minda J. Formacion. A Plaque of Appreciation was awarded to the guest speaker by the college president himself, who was assisted by VPAA Dr. Ricardo B. Abaleña and VPAF Prof. Edwin T. Fos. SCUAA 2009 Gold Medalists Ms. Lalaine Padajas and Mr. Mark Kenneth Gabaldon lighted the urn of sportsmanship for the players and athletes. After the Oaths of Amateurism and Officiating Oficials were said, the Foundation Week Celebration was formally declared open by the college president. A ceremonial toss followed, led by the guest speaker and the college president. Right after the program, the sports events were played by unit players of the college department, up to the following day as scheduled. Engr. Russ Allen Napud was Master of Ceremonies. Winning teams are scheduled for announcement on Monday, September 7, 2009.
On September 2, the Opening of Exhibits and Academic Contests 2009 were held at 8:00 A.M. in the covered court. VPAF Prof. Edwin T. Fos delivered the welcome remarks. OIC/VPAA Dr. Ricardo B. Abaleña introduced the keynote speaker, Ms. Charie Ginete-Ilon, ABS-CBN Station Manager for Iloilo. College President Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr. awarded a plaque of appreciation to the speaker, assisted by the VPs. He gave an inspirational message to the participants and formally declared the opening of exhibits and academic contests. The guest speaker and the college president led other college key officials in cutting the ribbons in various exhibit areas. to signal its opening. Dr. Danebeth T. Glomo was master of ceremonies.
Student participants for the Academic Contest coming from the external campuses started to arrive before lunchtime on same day with their coaches and instructors. The contest, held at the covered court started at exactly 1:00 P.M. Winners were announced and awarded right after the quiz bee.
At about 5:30 P.M. on same day the Coronation Night for Miss WVCST 2009 commenced in the covered court. Miss Rosechelle Joy A. de la Cruz of the B.S. HRT department won the title, and was crowned thereafter (detailed story in related article).
A Skills Olympics was held at 8:00 A.M. on September 3, 2009 in the covered court. OIC/VPAA Dr. Ricardo B. Abaleña delivered an opening remark. College President Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr. addressed an inspiring message to student participants. Skills Contest 2009 Chairman Prof. Pacifico N. Senador presented the contest areas, event administrators and judges. The opening of the skills contest was formally declared by the college president, which followed thereafter. Winners were awarded right after the contest.
The program was concluded at around 4:00 P.M. by CIT Dean Dr. Manuel A. Sanchez, Jr. with his closing remarks. Prof. Adelfa Fontonalgo was master of ceremonies.
The food festival and computer games tournament were simultaneously held while the skills olympics were ongoing in the morning of same day. A Cultural Presentation and Parade and Review iwere presented in the afternoon, in honor of Bureau of Fire and Protection Chief Superintent Manuel Perez.
Various student government activities took place from 7:30 A.M. to 12:00 noon on the 6th day, September 4. A citizen’s charter was launched at 1:00 P.M. followed by a sports competition for the alumni. At 6:00 P.M. a community night was participated in by the FEA, SG, PTA, WVCSTAA, retirees, and external campuses in the covered court. It lasted until about 10:00 P.M.
Alumni homecoming activities took place on the last day of the 7-day affair. (Shirley j. Sta. Maria)
