The college’s teaching force gathered for a General Faculty Conference on November 9, 2009 at the EdTech Center. This event marked the start of the second semester for the current school year.
The faculty members registered by unit starting 7:30 AM. on said day. At 8 AM the program formally opened. College President Luis M. Sorolla, Jr. delivered his message, welcoming everyone to another milestone in the college's academic age. Planning and Development Director Dr. Nehema K. Misola laid down plans and projects undertaken during the first semester, and those that are lined up for the current term. VPAF Edwin T. Fos took his turn on concerns related to his office. VPAA Ricardo B. Abaleña expressed concerns related to academic affairs, and that of the Graduate School.
On issues pertaining to the Student Personnel Services Division (SPSD), Dr. Susan Marie R. de la Cruz revealed a drafted proposal for the treatment of student fraternity/sorority movements and activities in the campus.
OIC/Research Director Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut revealed to the body that the RSD has forged the strategic plan for his office as basis for its action for the next three (3) years. Further, he stressed that the highlights of said strategic plan is to put in place the R & D agenda particularly on the conduct of R & D, Research Building Capability, IP Protection, dissemination and commercialization.
Mr. Andres Ortega, Jr. presented the report for the Extension Services Division, in behalf of Dr. Nemia H. Mabaquiao, ESD Director. He presented the Performance Target for 2nd and 3rd Quarter, AY 2009-2010. He pointed out Community Organization and activities, Education Program and activities, Socio-Economic Program and activities, Health and Nutrition Program, and Environmental and Social Services Programs that the department has undertaken.
In a 5-minute speech, Prof. Domingo Alfaras revealed his plan to draft a proposal on rights and settlement of cases related to sexual harassment. Moreover, he aired the need to create a rule on the use of college facilities by fraternities and sororities. The conference was adjourned at 11:35 AM.
A Special General Assembly meeting for the Faculty Association took over the floor with FEA President Samie M. Billanes presiding when the conference resumed at 1 PM. Mr. Billanes expressed enthusiasm to extend the College President's term of office, and a resolution was moved and seconded to be drafted endorsing him for the second term. He disclosed that there had been a marathon deliberation with the administration on varied issues, among others, rice and transportation subsidy allowance, retirement benefit, free annual medical and dental examination, and gender and development.
The meeting was adjourned at exactly 1:50 PM. The educators proceeded to their respective colleges for a unit meeting. (Shirley J. Sta. Maria)
