At the start of the second semester of current school year, the college administration has forged a plan for an in-campus connect program with Globe Telecom. The project is designed to reach communications end of college employees and students via cellular phones regarding official announcements for free.
The project was finally launched last February 5, 2010 at about 3:30 P.M. in the college’s covered court. Campus-goers registered their Globe cell phone numbers with the telephone company’s agents. Local Globe Telecom Community Relations Head Mr. Jeffrey Tarayao was invited to render a special message but was not able to attend the program. In his behalf, Ms. Tania Padilla, the company’s Regional Sales Head, graced the occasion with college officials, heads and campus administrators. She talked about the project and its objectives.
Globe Telecom, thru its representative, assisted by College President Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr. gave away five (5) units laptop to 1) the main campus, received by VPAA Dr. Ricardo B. Abaleña; 2) Miag-ao campus, received by Campus Administrator Dr. Raul Muyong’s representative; 3) Leon campus, received by Campus Administrator Dr. Eugenita Capaciete; 4) Barotac Nuevo campus, received by Campus Administrator Dr. Antonio D. Derequito; and 5) Dumangas campus, received by Campus Administrator Dr. Lourdes Diasnes’ representative. The equipment were intended for use in the communications project.
A group dance contest for students followed thereafter, with Mr. Fritz Dapilo, Mr. Mark Espaltero, and R-Dawn Dasalan of ABS-CBN Iloilo as judges. Five (5) group dancers vied for the contest: Street Jam, Dance Mania Crew, AHRTS Executive, Volume III Iloilo, and Intense Movers. Dance group named Volume III lIoilo won, bagging P5,000 cash prize; AHRTS Executive got 2nd place with P3,000 cash prize; Dance Mania Crew got 3rd place with P2,000 cash prize. The Intense Movers and Street Jam bagged P1,000 each for consolation prizes.
College President Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr. addressed the audience especially the guests with his words of welcome. VPAF Prof. Edwin T. Fos concluded the launching program with his closing remarks. Ms. Richel G. Jacela was master of ceremony. (Shirley J. Sta. Maria)
